You could trawl the rock & roll archives all the way back to the start and never find an album quite like Red Rose Speedway. Which is not to say that it's great. Just that it's... weird. Though it's a Wings album, it's entirely irradiated with Paul McCartney's personality--to the extent that virtually the entire band left him while attempting to rehearse for the supporting tour, claiming they couldn't operate in his huge, overbearing shadow. You can see where they were coming from. Red Rose Speedway, right down to the cover shot of Macca with a rose in his mouth, is about Paul McCartney, specifically his unique ability in the '70s to pump up slight, pretty songs to the scale of "Hey Jude," seemingly unaware or unworried that that didn't necessarily make them as good as "Hey Jude." The high spot is the saccharine sauciness of "My Love," a lurching soft-focus ballad about his wife's sexual excellence. The rest of it--lazy, lushly produced rock, sometimes sweet, sometimes just cloying, but always unmistakably Macca--is worth hearing if just to ponder: "What the hell did he think he was doing?" --Taylor Parkes

I never get tired of his music
Other than the "Loup.." instrumental I like every song on this cd. "Little Lamb Dragonfly" is one of his best songs ever and the medley sounds great from beginning to end. People often compare the medley on RRS to the medley on Abbey Road. The only links between the two are that Paul sings and plays on both, and both are medleys.
After the Beatles broke up everything Paul did was compared to his work from the Beatles. The Beatles are a tough act to follow, though my opinion is the songs on this album/cd hold up well against the songs he did with the Beatles. I would highly recommend Red Rode Speedway to anyone who likes the Beatles and recognizes the genius that is Paul McCartney. When you're done with that buy "Band on the Run" and "Venus and Mars". It's amazing that one can invest a few dollars and get a lifetime of enjoyment from the music.

Paul's underrated album
There's really no point going into detail for each song. Why? Because honestly, they all sound the same- show-offy, bombastic-sounding, brightly-produced pop songs. The entire album is filled with them. Supposedly it was hard working witih Paul McCartney's ego for this album, but luckily everything worked out fine and the album was made.
Sure, Red Rose Speedway *sounds* like a Barry Manilow record, but the quality of the songwriting isn't any different than it always was (and I mean that as a compliment- I love Paul's solo career). The guy simply knew how to write great songs, and it shows once again. Sure, it's not as good as the Beatles, but what is? One of Paul's more underrated efforts, seeing as how "My Love" is the only song that gets any attention from the album it seems. Usually albums that contain one big hit actually have a bunch of more equally enjoyable songs, and this is another example of that.
