Once viewed as a plaything of the wealthy and eccentric, the car is now an integral part of modern life. The Car takes us on a tour of the many roles that the automobile has played in its lifetime, and the many guise and different models in which it has appeared. Not just a book of glossy advertising shots, The Car is a social history of the impact that cars and driving have had on the world, and nowhere more so than in the United States: freeways, driveins, trucks and trailer parks all spring from the invention of the internal combustion engine

The Slick Stixxx Detailing Component System uses a patent-pending vehicle detailing and polishing technology that helps you easily remove dirt, grease, and grime from even the tightest spaces. Using a series of four component handles, seven component heads and a cleaning cloth, this kit allows you to clean areas that cannot normally be reached by using conventional tools or by hand.
Slick Stixxx - Dental Tools For Your Ride Slick Stixxx make it easy to give your automobile a showroom shine. Like the precision tools found at your dental office, they are specifically designed to fit into tight spaces and remove unsightly build-up. The kit's 4 tempered-aluminum component handles come in a variety of lengths and angles, and can be connected together to provide additional reach. All Slick Stixxx handles are coated with chemical- resistant vinyl to prevent accidental scratches and provide a long life. The seven cleaning heads are designed to address a wide variety of cleaning tasks, and can fit in to very close quarters. They are constructed of self-lubricating, non-marking, high-density plastic that is resistant to petroleum and chemicals. The 4-1/2" head cleaner is designed to clean and polish in deep, tight spaces. Its flexible qualities, combined with the thinness and length of the head, allow it to move around obstacles that have kept you from being able to the clean dirt and grime locked in visible but previously unreachable areas. The 1" head cleaner is thin, like its longer counterpart, but not flexible--lending its use to tight areas that require consistent thinness but no flexibility or taper. The large and small chisel heads fit in between grille and wheel components, while the cone/pick head is the right tool for getting into and around bolts. When used as directed, Slick Stixxx automobile detailing tools are safe to use on chrome, billet aluminum, powder coating and painted surfaces. Directions and Recommendations Select the component head appropriate for cleaning the desired area and attach it to the handle of your choice. Use the included ferrule connectors if you wish to extend and customize the handle length or angle. You can also use the 45-degree and 90-degree component handles as butt-end handle grips for additional leverage or comfort. Always attach a butt-end cap to the non-working side of the handle. This will keep the end of the handle from accidentally scratching any surfaces. Wrap the supplied cloth around the selected cleaning head and handle combination, and then give the tool a twist to lock the rag on to the cleaning head. Next, apply cleaner or polish to the cloth. Use one hand to hold the tool and the other hand to hold the cleaning cloth, helping to articulate the tool in and around the desired area. As the cloth becomes soiled, move the cleaning head to a clean part of the cloth, apply more cleaner or polish, and continue. You can also put cleaning heads on both sides of a handle in lieu of a butt-end cap. This allows you to easily flip back and forth between either cleaning head, and makes the unit function like a "dental tool". The cleaning heads can also be ground down with a grinder or belt sander to fit your particular needs. Slick Stixxx are designed for use only with microfiber or other cloth material wrapped around the component ends. There may be certain applications--such as very dirty areas--that will require doubling the cloth, or the use of a thicker cloth. Cleaning cloths will wear down, and users should inspect them for holes and thinning before each use. Replace worn cloths as needed. Wrinkle-finish surfaces are particularly rough on both cleaning cloths and Slick Stixxx component heads. Extreme care should be taken to continuously monitor the condition of the cleaning cloth, and frequent inspections for holes and thinning are required for safe operation. If the component cleaning tip breaks through the cloth you are using, there is a chance that it could mark the wrinkle finish or billet aluminum. In the event that the tip breaks through, stop cleaning and move the component end to a fresh area of the cloth before resuming.
What's In The Box? Each kit includes the following components, which have been numbered for identification in the image to the right.

The postwar era marked the emergence of all things American, and in the 1950s, cars led the way. The brilliant colors-pinks, blues, yellows, and reds-soaring tailfins, and grinning, wide-mouthed grilles of the 1953 Buick Skylark, 1957 Ford Skyliner, 1953 Firebird III, and 1959 Cadillac tore up the country's pristine superhighways and dotted the parking lots of new suburban shopping malls. These and many other striking models, which expressed the national optimism and pride of 1950s America, are featured in this elegant volume of images by renowned automobile photographer Michael Furman.
The book contains more than 150 stunning photographs of these motoring icons, many never before published. An informative text and an illustrated index of technical information describe the unique qualities of these spectacular cars, each more imposing in design, size, and power than the preceding models. Furman's technical virtuosity and exacting eye for detail make this unparalleled collection of photographs an eye-popping delight, an invitation for car lovers of all kinds to rediscover an era when the American automobile was king. AUTHOR BIO: Michael Furman is a nationally recognized specialist in automobile photography. For more than 25 years he has photographed important launches of such vehicles as the Nissan Altima and Quest, the Mercedes CLK, and the BMW-7 series. He is also the author of Abrams' Motor Cars of the Classic Era. Michael Furman is perhaps the most in-demand photographer of automobiles today, and after one peek inside this large, fetishized monument to the great flowering of the auto industry after WW II, it's easy to see why. Huge fins, bright gleaming chrome, and colorfully glowing paint speak of incredible optimism and consumption of natural resources. A swell companion piece to his Motorcars of the Classic Era, Furman is capable of focusing on details that really make a particular car stand out while never losing sight of the importance of the overall design. There are things you totally expect to see here, like the fin from a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Seville or the deco/ Futurist "angel in flight" hood ornament for the 1947 Nash Ambassador Suburban as well as full side views of the 1951 Buick LeSabre and 1959 Firebird III (which still look like they came from the future for rides to the moon in total comfort). But even the biggest car aficionado will see these immaculately-restored museum quality rides in a different light through the clearly obsessed lens of Furman, whether it be the fin and light detail of the 1956 De Soto Adventurer or the oil cap on a 1959 Fiat Abarth Record Monza Bialbero Zagato! It's hard to think of a better gift for a fan of cars from this era, aside from one of the cars. --Mike McGonigal
