Anybody who has written him off because of his string of stinkers--or anybody who's too young to remember The Goodbye Girl--may be shocked at the accomplishment and nuance of Richard Dreyfuss's performance in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Here, he plays a man possessed; contacted by aliens, he (along with other members of the "chosen") is drawn toward the site of the incipient landing: Devil's Tower, in rural Wyoming. As in many Spielberg films, there are no personalized enemies; the struggle is between those who have been called and a scientific establishment that seeks to protect them by keeping them away from the arriving spacecraft. The ship, and the special effects in general, are every bit as jaw-dropping on the small screen as they were in the theater (well, almost). Released in 1977 as a cerebral alternative to the swashbuckling science fiction epics then in vogue, Close Encounters now seems almost wholesome in its representation of alien contact and interested less in philosophizing about extraterrestrials than it is in examining the nature of the inner "call." Ultimately a motion picture about the obsession of the driven artist or determined visionary, Close Encounters comes complete with the stock Spielberg wives and girlfriends who seek to tether the dreamy, possessed protagonists to the more mundane concerns of the everyday. So a spectacular, seminal motion picture indeed, but one with gender politics that are all too terrestrial. --Miles Bethany

The #1 bestselling novelist in the UK now makes her U.S. debut with a hardhitting story that combines the brutality and deep family ties of The Sopranos with an unparalleled look at the underbelly of London's gang land.

Patrick Brodie is on the way up. He is a risk-taker like his alcoholic father, and knows exactly how far he is prepared to go to get what he wants. Before long, Patrick has ruthlessly taken out the old guard of the criminal underworld and become a legend in his own lifetime.

The kind of women he is normally attracted to have no foolish dreams of marriage, children, or, God help them, love. But Lily Diamond is different. There's something about her that has gotten under Patrick's skin, and all he can think about is making her happy and keeping her safe.

Eventually they settle down and have a family, and grow determined that their children will not have to face the same kind of lives they did. But then, the unthinkable happens, and everything is suddenly, irreversibly changed.

Spanning over forty years in the underbelly of crime, CLOSE is powerful, shocking, unsettling, and utterly addictive.

Too Close to the Sun
Price: $29.95 USD
Curtis Roosevelt was three when he and his sister, Eleanor, arrived at the White House soon after their grandfather-s inauguration. The country-s -First Grandchildren,- a pint-sized double act, they were known to the media as -Sistie and Buzzie.- In this rich memoir, Roosevelt brings us into -the goldfish bowl,- as his family called it-that glare of public scrutiny to which all presidential households must submit. He recounts his misadventures as a hapless kid in an unforgivably formal setting and describes his role as a tiny planet circling the dual suns of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. Blending self-abasement, humor, awe and affection, Too Close to the Sun is an intimate portrait of two of the most influential and inspirational figures in modern American history-and a thoughtful exploration of the emotional impact of growing up in their irresistible aura.

Impossible Close-up Magic DVD - Ray Kosby Is One of the Most Creative Close-up Magicians You Will See.
Ray Kosby is one of the most creative close-up magicians you will see. He comes up with original and often offbeat effects and his methods are just as wild. The strength behind his magic is that his routines will fool you. Audiences gasp at his effects -- when they are not speechless all they can say is, WOW! Try to figure out how he accomplishes the routines on this program without watching the explanations -- he will absolutely fool you -- you will have no clue as to how Ray accomplishes these impossibilities. Routines performed and explained: Silver and Bone: A two phase routine which starts with a coin visually penetrating through your hand and concluding with a visual transposition between a half dollar and a jumbo coin. Sidewinder Pretzel: An ordinary pretzel stick is bent at right angles and then twisted into the standard pretzel design. Rubber Nightmare: A large rubber band is split into three equal sized bands and then the three bands are shown to be of different lengths -- a small, medium and large. The professor's Nightmare with rubber bands? Square One: A startling coin assembly with no covers where the coins assemble to one spot on the table and instantly jump back to the four corners. The Bite: Ray's trademark routine where he takes a bite out of a red apple and a moment later he is seen holding a green apple with the same bite missing. No switches and no sleight-of-hand used. Twixt the Threads: A coin penetrates through the center of a handkerchief. Osmosis: A ball visually penetrates through the center of a clear plastic bag. The Picnic Trick: A can of soda is popped open so the liquid splashes. You rub the opening of the can and it heals itself so it is as good as new. 1 2 3 4: Four sponge cubes are produced and placed in your fist. The fist is opened to show a giant number "4" made out of sponge. The "4" is then ripped into four separate cubes.
