Describing applications and uses for parcel information in an ArcGIS geodatabase, this book covers the data model developed as a framework for land record information in an ArcGIS environment. Demonstrated is how the model supports real GIS work, including the update and maintenance of data content by tax assessors, planners, recorders, environmental managers, public works officials, safety officials, and others. Land records personnel learn how parcel information can be designed in a geodatabase so work can begin on system design and implementation. The advantages of putting parcel information into a geodatabase are described, and instruction on moving existing applications into the geodatabase is provided. Datasets are included that show how the parcel data model has been easily customized to satisfy different requirements.

Field dependent and field independent cognitive styles are contrasting ways of perceiving and processing information. This study investigated how the cognitive styles of field dependence (FD) and field independence (FI) affect the achievement levels of distance learners. This research examined the matching or mismatching the design of asynchronous distance education to the field dependent and the field independent learner.Subjects were administered the GEFT, a measure of field dependence-independence. Only those in the first (Field Dependent) and fourth (Field Independent) quartiles of the resulting distribution participated the study. Half of each group was randomly selected to receive asynchronous online instruction matching their cognitive style, and half received asynchronous online instruction mismatching their cognitive style. Matching the FD cognitive style, in asynchronous distance education had a positive impact on achievement for both Field Dependent and Field Independent learners as measured from pre to post test.

Although its brown vans are on every block and its delivery service reaches more than 200 countries, UPS is among the world’s most underestimated and misunderstood companies.
For the first time, a UPS “lifer” tells the behind-the-scenes story of how a small messenger service became a business giant. Big Brown reveals the remarkable 100-year history of UPS and the life of its founder Jim Casey—one of the greatest unknown capitalists of the twentieth century. Casey pursued a Spartan business philosophy that emphasized military discipline, drab uniforms, and reliability over flash—a model that is still reflected in UPS culture today. Big Brown examines all the seeming paradoxes about UPS: from its traditional management style and strict policies coupled with high employee loyalty and strong labor relations; from its historical “anti-marketing” bias (why brown?) to its sterling brand loyalty and reputation for quality.
