Nuts for Racing: A Stockcar Toons Book (StockcarToons Books)
Price: $9.99 USD
"Mike Smith has a deft touch, which is to say that he pokes good-natured fun at NASCAR, while at the same time . . . loving the sport he lampoons." --Monte Dutton, NASCAR sportswriter

America's fastest-growing spectator sport departs from the asphalt and heads to the funny pages with Mike Smith's comic creation StockcarToons. Boasting a fan base as diverse as Bill Clinton and the Vatican--who have each asked for originals of his work--Smith tackles NASCAR governance issues, race-car rivalries, corporate sponsorships, and other essential particulars on the minds of NASCAR fans with the keen eye of a well-seasoned editorial cartoonist. Equally adept at addressing the mechanics of the sport as he is addressing those under the hood, Smith has proven himself not only to NASCAR fans, but to a host of professional drivers, pit crew members, and sportscasters who laud his work.

This StockcarToons gift collection features color in addition to Smith's standard black-and-white published panels.

Pictures and IMAX in Spring 2004 and marks Warner Bros.' first foray into the IMAX arena.

Documentaries:Drivers' Profiles
Documentary:NASCAR's closest racing moments

Until you've seen NASCAR: The IMAX Experience, you haven't really seen NASCAR. Even without the advantage of a gigantic IMAX screen and 70-millimeter 3-D projection, this 48-minute IMAX film is a perfect primer for newcomers to the sport of stock-car racing. Like all IMAX films it's aimed at a mainstream audience (hardcore NASCAR fans won't learn anything new here), so it covers a broad spectrum of general history, technical information, and pure high-speed adrenaline, from NASCAR's origins in 1947 to the oval-track highlights of the 2003 season. While Lonesome Dove director Simon Wincer captures the action (including some amazing mid-pack and cockpit footage during actual races), Kiefer Sutherland narrates an informative survey of season-long activities, from car building and safety measures at Mooresville, North Carolina, to pit-crew practice, transportation logistics, constant danger and its effect on drivers' wives and families, and the aerodynamics of drafting. Interesting trivia (each tire costs $389!) is included along with driver profiles and a compilation of memorable race finishes, but it's the IMAX footage that makes this a thrill-a-minute DVD, perfect for anyone who's just beginning to enjoy the world's fastest (and fastest-growing) sport. --Jeff Shannon

Red Dirt Tracks: The Forgotten Heroes of Early Stockcar Racing
Price: $24.95 USD
Red Dirt Tracks is the story of early stockcar race drivers in the Southeastern U.S., before the advent of NASCAR. They drove with passion and zeal, using streetcars belonging to their fathers, with no safety equipment and no prize money. They strapped themselves in with belts or ropes, and if they wrecked, the car was gone as there was no insurance. Many faced the ire of angry fathers, but would not give up racing. These drivers ran illegal liquor to support their racing, and learned how to drive faster and more aggressively. They became the bane of law enforcement as they ran their loads of moonshine from hidden stills to bootleggers. With their love and passion for racing, they unwittingly built an accidental empire unprecedented in today’s sports world. This is their story, capturing their essence and magnificent bravery as well as their unparalleled devotion to one another and their sport.

Organized into three sections--a comprehensive year-by-year review, a statistical biography of more that 400 of the sport's all-time greatest drivers, and a complete listing of NASCAR's statistics and records, The Complete Statistical History of Stock Car Racing may provoke as many arguments as it settles. No other book offers this information. If you are going to buy only one book on NASCAR, this is the one.

Stockcar Toons: More Grins and Spins on the Winston Cup Circuit
Price: $12.95 USD
StockcarToons II is the second collection of cartoons on NASCAR Winston Cup Racing by editorial cartoonist Mike Smith. This new body of work includes Mike's weekly work from the Las Vegas Sun and Winston Cup Scene. StockcarToons II takes a humorous look at the personalities, controversies and major news events from the past year in Winston Cup racing. Kevin Harvick, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, NASCAR president Mike Helton and many other prominent figures from the sport are caricatured in the cartoons. In addition, the collection also comments on the controversies surrounding restrictor plate racing, safety issues in racing, and the battle between veteran race car drivers and the up-and-coming generation of new drivers. The cartoons examine all these subjects with an eye that reflects a fan's perspective.
