"The individual perspectives on the concepts behind the XQuery language offered by XQuery from the Experts will be of great value to those who are seeking to understand the implications, opportunities, and challenges of XQuery as they design future information systems based on XML." -Michael Champion, Advisory Research and Development Specialist, Software AG XQuery answers the growing need for a functional XML search and transformation standard. Backed by the full weight of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), XQuery is being extremely well received by the IT community worldwide. The first major XML language that takes advantage of the benefits of strong typing provided by XML Schema, XQuery has the versatility to manipulate both XML and non-XML data and provides a valuable connection between the world of XML and relational databases. In XQuery from the Experts, select members of the W3C's XML Query working group come together to discuss every facet of XQuery. From Jonathan Robie's introductory "XQuery: A Guided Tour" to Mary Mary Fernandez, Jerome Simeon, and Philip Wadler's "Introduction to the Formal Semantics," XQuery is revealed in a way that both novice programmers and industry experts can appreciate. Edited by long-time XML expert and programmer Howard Katz, coverage ranges from strictly technical chapters to comparative essays such as Michael Kay's "XQuery, XPath, and XSLT," which explores the common ancestry of all three languages, and Don Chamberlin's "Influences on the Design of XQuery," which details the process behind XQuery's design. Key coverage includes: *Denise Draper on "Mapping Between XML and Relational Data" *Michael Rys exploring "Integrating XQuery and Relational Database Systems" *Jim Tivy's analysis of "A Native XML DBMS" *Mary Mary Fernandez, Jerome Simeon, and Philip Wadler, presenting "Static Typing in XQuery" *Information presented in both a tutorial and a reference framework for use by XML professionals of any level For IT managers, professionals, programmers, or anyone involved with XML, XQuery from the Experts is an invaluable resource. 0321180607B07212003

Complete and up-to-date specifications of Cascading Style Sheets, Level 2 (CSS2).
* Ideal for program designers, HTML Web page authors, and others who need to keep abreast of current publishing standards for the World Wide Web. * Describes how to attach a style sheet to an HTML document so that its appearance (fonts, colors, spacing) can be accurately defined. * Explains "cascading" nature of style sheets-enables users to set display preferences. Style sheets describe how documents are presented on screens, in print, or even how they are pronounced when spoken using a computerized speech synthesizer. The specifications for Cascading Style Sheets Specification, Level 2, have been prepared by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), an independent and international standards body devoted to furthering the technologies used on the World Wide Web. The W3C has produced two recommendations (CSS1 and CSS2) which are widely, although not consistently, implemented in browsers, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. The CSS2 specifications are an enhancement of the earlier CSS1 specifications, and provide greater control and flexibility in rendering a page on screen or paper. By attaching style sheets to documents on the Web authors and readers can influence the presentation of documents without sacrificing device-independence or adding new HTML tags. This book contains the complete and most up-to-date version currently available of the CSS2 specification. It's designed to be a handy desktop companion, saving you the time and expense of printing the documentation yourself. It is also useful when viewing the online version of the CSS2 specifications is inconvenient. Publisher: To Excel Inc

Complete and up-to-date working draft specifications of Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL).
* Companion technology for Extensible Markup Language, XML, considered the next generation markup language for Web-based documents. * Describes how XSL can be used to define the appearance of printed and displayed documents. * Perfect companion for program developers, Web page authors, technology managers, and others. Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) is a language for expressing stylesheets in documents such as those provided on the World Wide Web. XSL is used as part of the emerging Extensible Markup language (XML) technology. With XSL, each stylesheet describes rules for presenting a class of XML source documents, so that the documents can be properly viewed on a browser, or printed on a paper. XSL can also be used to transform XML to "well-formed" HTML, that is, XML that uses the element types and attributes defined by the more common HTML format used on most Web pages today. This book is a printed version of the XSL working draft specifications. It contains the complete text of the original document developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Author: Sharon Adler

ISO/IEC 8825-5:2004 defines rules for mapping an XSD Schema (a schema conforming to the W3C XML Schema specification) to an ASN.1 schema in order to use ASN.1 encoding rules such as the Basic Encoding Rules (BER), the Distinguished Encoding Rules (DER), the Packed Encoding Rules (PER) or the XML Encoding Rules (XER) for the transfer of information defined by the XSD Schema. The use of ISO/IEC 8825-5:2004 with the ASN.1 Extended XML Encoding Rules (EXTENDED-XER) provides the same XML representation of values as that defined by the original XSD Schema.
